ILEX / City & Guilds Legal Secretaries


The Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) in association with the City & Guilds Group offers a range of secretarial programmes.

The programmes are designed to establish a national standard for those working in a legal environment. They offer a flexible route with no entry requirements (although a Grade C or above in English Language GCSE is desirable) and are assessed by task based assignments. Specially produced course books are available.

Reflecting the National Occupational Standards in Administration, the programmes are now considered the benchmark for those aspiring to or working in a legal environment as secretaries or personal assistants.

City & Guilds approved centres are available nationwide.

In order to achieve the full qualification, candidates will need to pass an externally set proof reading test, as well as a series of assignments.
